Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is an ancient science to make use of natural essential oils and natural oils, in order to improve your health, to cure some illnesses, or to awaken certain capacities.
Base oils
Almond oil: this oil has a thick consistence, but it can be used as it is or in combination with a easier vegetable oil, like for example grape seeds oil or sun flower oil.
The almond oil contains a lot of vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin E. It is suitable for all skin types.
Avocado oil: it is a nutritious oil with a high rate of vitamins, proteins, lecithin and etheric fat acids. It is rather thick and works better when combined with easier oil mixtures. It is specially fit for aged, wrinkled, dry and wounded skin.
Grape seeds oil: it is a good choice for massage mixtures, because it has a thin consistence and the skin absorbs it very easily and therefore it is good for all skin types. This oil is odorless and it gets even better when combined with nutritious oils, like almond.
Jojoba oil: it is rich in vitamin E. It can be used alone or in combination with other base oils. It fits all skin types.
Olive oil: it is a nutritious oil that contains vitamin E and is excellent in treating wounded, dry or rough skin. It is not so popular in aroma massage, because of its thick consistence and strong smell. But it is very good for treating dry skin or as a hand cream.
Sun-flower oil: this oil is popular in massage therapy. It’s thin consistence implies that it can be used alone or mixed with thicker oils.
Wheat germ oil: it is an antioxidant oil. If you add it in a small amount in a basic oil mixture, it keeps it fresh. It is especially beneficial for aged or dry skin, because it is very rich in vitamin E.
Keep the essential oil in dark glass bottles, away from sun light and if possible in a cool place. Put always the lid back as soon as you used them.
Patch test: you need to test the oils before using them. Put a drop of essential oil on a cotton-wool pad and rub it gently on a small skin area on the inside of your arm. Do not wash it for 24 hours. If it itches, turns red or shows any other symptom of allergy, do not use that oil.
The most fitted essential oils for all skin types:
